Dr. Gafford is a native of Texas who
grew up on a cotton farm near Snyder halfway between Lubbock and Abilene in
Northwest Texas. After completing a degree in history and political
science at McMurry University in Abilene, he attended Asbury Theological
Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.
In 1976, Ben completed his Master of
Divinity Degree. He, then, began his pastoral ministry in The United Methodist
Church, South Carolina Conference. In his senior year at Asbury, Ben married his
wife, Dora, who was also pursuing a Master of Divinity Degree. Since then, they have served
as a Clergy Couple in the South Carolina Conference.
Ben and Dora have two married daughters,
Reagan and Lindsey. Reagan and James Cannon are the parents of Thomas Law
and John Rogers. They live in Hartsville, SC. Lindsey is married to Andrew
Cannon. They reside in Charleston, SC.
In 2006, Ben and Dora, both, earned
their Doctorate Degree in Spiritual Formation from the Graduate Theological
Foundation in South Bend, Indiana. They are Certified Spiritual
Directors and have led a number of spiritual formation groups.
Pastor Ben is an avid storyteller as
well as a member of the National Storytellers Network.
